A few months ago Jen Arnold and I taped an episode of her podcast “Redesigning Wellness” We talked about how we can fight fatphobia within corporate wellness culture. It was a fun interview and I’m grateful to Jen for inviting me!
I also recommend the episode with Dr. Ella Washington – Fighting Racism in the Workplace

One thought on “Corporate Wellness – Fighting Back Against Fatphobia”
That was a great podcast. I also read the websites linked, and… dang, I’m horrified to find out that the fiscal penalties levied against employees who can’t lose weight by some of these “wellness” programs was prompting the people enrolled in them to *binge-eat to temporarily inflate their weight so they could ‘lose’ that artificially-inflated weight to avoid incurring the penalty,* basically encouraging weight cycling and unintentionally recreating the prison overfeeding experiment. That’s the sort of thing that makes me want to fire the highest-volume, coldest Super Soaker I can find directly down the back of anyone who claims to support these discriminatory practices out of “concern for our health.”
Oh, and anyone who says the employees who won’t participate aren’t being penalized, the ones who will are just being rewarded… yeah, that’s like how a store that hikes up its prices to 200% suggested retail value and then drops them to normal for a few days is “having a sale.”
