Much of my activism, including this blog, as well as thousands of e-mails/Facebook messages etc that I answer each month, and dozens of free and reduced-fee talks that I give each year, are supported through memberships instead of corporate sponsorships or ads.  The membership is just ten bucks a month and is critical to my activism – it keeps the blog ad free,  gives me the time to answer the e-mails and Facebook messages I get every day from people (including lots of teachers and students) seeking advice and support, write a blog and create social media content that a lot of readers tell me is a lifeline to them, and coordinate projects and communities like the Fit Fatties Forum, HAES Health Sheets, and Rolls Not Trolls, as well as letter writing campaigns, petitions, and more. It also means that I’m supported by the people who value my work, rather than being beholden to corporate advertisers.

Click here to become a member,  (it works in currencies around the world to make it easy for my International readers).

Or don’t subscribe and continue to interact with the blog exactly as you always have and everything is completely copacetic and, seriously,  (like my Mom used to tell my brother and I) I love you just the same!

If you have concerns about my having a paid membership service or paying for things on the blog you might want to check out this post, or feel free to e-mail me at ragen at danceswithfat dot org

  1. Count me in as a subscriber! I dance with fat! And I guess I promote being allowed to live my life as a healthy fat person….is that promoting obesity. If so I’ll take the heat.

Also as a fat person I reserve the right not to be perfectly healthy all the time just like those thin folks….

  2. After all the money I’ve spent dieting over the years, supporting your refreshing, HEALTHY site is an honor. Just reading your well-researched and witty blogs has done wonders for my mental health – which of course makes me feel better about myself and life in general.

    Keep on blogging my friend!

  3. My sister told me about your site and I came to check it out. I am heavier than I want to be but still able to dance for hours! Literally. Dance has been a lift long passion and it’s how I got myself out of a wheelchair. Much love and support being sent your way. Love, in all its many forms, is always beautiful! Dance On! Girl. 4. I’ve been reading your blog, off and on, for a couple of years now. Recently, though, I noticed that I’m really making progress in body acceptance. I took an online psychological test – I believe I got the link either from here or ThisIsThinPrivilege.tumblr.com – that tested attitudes toward fat vs. thin bodies. My results were straight down the middle!

YES! I actually showed a value of fat bodies being the same as thin bodies! The majority showed a definite skew towards thin, but mine was balanced. I think I’m finally learning to really appreciate bodies, including mine!!!, of any and all sizes. And I really think I have you to thank for it.

I have literally spent 3/4 of my life dieting. I started dieting at the age of 10, and didn’t stop until two years ago, when I was hit by a truck. That completely changed my life. I gained weight over the years, but when I stopped dieting, even though I was severely limited, physically, I didn’t gain any weight. I leveled off, because my body was happy where it was, and was just trying to heal. And my soul is healing, too.

From now on, anyone who tells me that there is no excuse for me to not be thin, or to not diet, I’ll just tell them that I did that for 30 years, and if it didn’t work in all that time, it’s not going to work in the future, either.

What’s that definition for insanity again? Oh, yeah. DIETING! It is literally crazy-making. If I believed in some nebulous “they” who are in charge of the patriarchy, I would believe that “they” came up with dieting as a tool to keep women and “beta-males” down, because when you are focusing on food and the limiting thereof, you can’t focus on anything else. You can’t accomplish anything else. You can’t BE anything other than a dieter.

Now, I can be me. I’m free, and I’m much happier. Thank you so much! I am happy to subscribe.

    1. Hi Michelle!

Thank you so much for sharing your story, I’m so happy to have the chance to support you,  but you definitely did the hard work!  Rock on, and thank you for subscribing, it really means a to me!

  5. I have been reading your hate mail site and am crying with laughter at it, especially your replies! Just so they didn’t waste their time with the hating, as soon as I get paid, I will join up as a member. 🙂

  6. I just found out today that I can make one-time donations here! Wonderful! My income and expenses are sometimes erratic, so I’ve been sad, for too long, that I couldn’t subscribe.

Good luck with the World Tour, and thank you so much for being a voice of reason in this insane world ((((electron hugs))))

  7. Regan – question. I already subscribe, but my credit card company switched my card – so what do I do? Do I need to resubscribe? Is there a way to edit my payment info? Thanks. Terri Weitze
